3D- Something for the future?

There has been a lot of talk recently about 3D entertainment, whether that is television or movies. The success of recent 3D movies (most notably the 3D version of the film Avatar) has drawn a lot of attention from the film industry. There has also been interest from the television industry, with adverts for 3D televisions becoming more pervasive. Sky is even going to have a 3D TV channel (http://corporate.sky.com/media/press_releases/2009/3d_tv.htm). All of these developments leave one wondering if this is the beginning of the end of 2D entertainment, or if 3D entertainment could co-exist peacefully with 2D for the foreseeable future. The next 5-10 years will be very interesting, particularly when HD becomes the norm for everyone, and SD becomes obsolete. After this, people will want to get their hands on the next big thing in entertainment. Will this be 3D?
